I am hardly ever on the side of government regulation, but I have to confess that the thought of the FCC weakening 2015 “net neutrality” rules on broadband December 14 concerns me more than a little. I usually support free market solutions to problems so now I’m very confused. (More about net neutrality) Particularly when I look at the list of people and companies against the FCC’S proposed move. It just feels weird to be on the same side.
Anyway the gist of the story is that the FCC wants to reclassify broadband communications from Title II to Title I with “light-touch regulation” as the FCC Chairman Ajit Pai calls it. In doing so they would be placing less oversight on the large broadband providers like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon. (Sounds a little like the fox watching over the hen house.)
So rather than just bellyache about it, I’m going to the FCC website to let my voice be heard. Let the FCC hear your voice too. (Click this link to the Filings page for Docket 17-108 and look in the right side menu for “express comment”.)
